I’m sorry you are going through this. I can’t imagine trying to deal with the cult mindset in an intimate relationship. My family makes me crazy sometimes and I don’t live anywhere near them.

Finding a mate
by MissMary inso here i am 44 yr old divorced and free to remarry jw sister....first time single since i was 19. but guess what no single brothers in my area.
i’ve tried those stupid jw dating sites and still no luck.
oh yes there are tons of single brothers, but guess what...they all expect a hot barbie to come running into their life.

The best advice I have is to love yourself and take care of yourself, that sets the standard for how others will treat you. Get involved in your community and build a life. Don’t make other people responsible for your happiness in a relationship or outside of a relationship.
Most of the men I know want their significant other to be active, take care of themselves, and have their own interests. I would not ever consider a relationship with a JW.

I would love to interview you
by Linton ini want to be as transparent as possible.
i am a baptist christian, a student at seminary and i need to conduct an interview.
i recently moved cities and the great folks that i used to chat to from my local jehovah's witness congregation are not in contact any longer.

Make sure to ask them about their problems with child sexual abuse and how they cover up the abuse and keep the abusers free to do it again.

How do you personally deal with your still in family JWS ?
by Finkelstein infor myself i just try to avoid them intentionally maybe see them once every couple of years on average.
they used to be easy going but over the last 10 years or so they got more cult like and distant and i'm really not bothered by that, maybe a bit.
they stick to their own or other members like they are their family so, its makes it unattractive for myself to connect and reach out to them anymore.

@diogenesister - one of my DF’d nephews is like my son now. We talk or text nearly every day and go on vacations with his wife and child. Those young adults that leave need someone in their corner, someone to give them advice, listen and love them no matter what. Someone to make sure there is a roof over their head and food in the fridge.
And they need someone to protect them until they are strong enough to protect themselves. I’ve went head to head with elders who would not leave them alone and my siblings who forged documents to make it appear they owned a vehicle they did not, with a plan to have him arrested for stealing the car. He had paid for the car with his own money. I had no choice but to get involved and put a stop to it. All because they were mad he didn’t want to be a witness. Assholes......

I have regular contact with my parents. Zero contact with my siblings. Regular contact with the DF’d relatives.
i have a don’t ask don’t tell relationship with my parents. I wouldn’t say we are close as most of our conversations are cursory (what they did, weather, their friends etc). I didn’t speak to them for many years - they missed my college graduation and wedding due to this stupid religion. During non-COVID times they see me but lie about it to my siblings and their JW friends.
i don’t speak to my siblings because they are toxic. I have no patience for people who are just rude, nasty people who provoke fights so they can claim to be the victim. I will never forgive either of them for the way they have treated their own children who left the religion. I have had to step in more than once when the threats and harrassment of those young adults by their parents got out of control.

Honestly - what is wrong with people?!?! I would have never imagined an America that had this type of behavior encouraged and praised.

For me I’ve moved on from most things JW and am not actively involved in the day to day goings on. But politics are something I am involved in, so while I don’t comment a lot on them, I do enjoy reading them.
Maybe the difference is the demographics of the two sites or newly ex-JW vs long time ex-JW?

Why Do Intelligent People Still Believe In The Jehovah’s Witness Religion?
by minimus ini understand it’s a cult.
but what makes an intelligent person actually believe they have the “truth” as taught by jehovah’s witnesses??
?.

I think it’s because they want someone else to make their decisions for them. It absolves them of responsibility for their actions and the outcomes because the organization does the thinking for them.

Do You Think We Will Ever Get To “Normal” Again?
by minimus inwill we ever be able to congregate together for a concert or a theater?
will we forever be wearing a mask at walmart?
will restaurants and bars allow people to eat drink and simply hang out?.
-
just fine
I’m getting back to normal as much as Is permitted. There is no mask mandate in my area. In the past month, I’ve been out to eat, to the salon, to a casino, a car show, a concert, on a trip (airplane/hotel/rental car), a fair, and various other places.
i am not in a high risk group and do not have contact with anyone in a high risk group. I did wear a mask as required when traveling and carried Clorox wipes/hand sanitizer.
I’m over it - I stayed locked up for 6 months and it about drove me nuts.
